DIY Coastal Decor

Do you dream of life at the sea or are you lucky enough to live on the coast? If you need to incorporate the sea into your home, check out these ideas for DIY Coastal Decor.

We live in the midwest, but dream of retiring in Key West. I’m done with snow and cold weather and I LOVE any and all water activities. All of these projects are on my ‘to do’ list. Easy, minimal supplies and a perfect way to add coastal flair to any room or any home.

Seashell Print

I love the style of this classic shell print from Ella Claire & Co. There is a link for a free printable and tips for printing the shell poster at Costco. I love traditional style and am a scientist, so this appeals to my nerdy love for vintage biology specimen books.

Sea Glass Votives and weathered wood tray

Christina at RemodelaCasa used Krylon Seaglass spray paint to create these cute sea glass inspired votives. The instructions for both the votives and trays are very clear and easy to follow. What a great gift for that sea dreamer in your life. The trays are cute as is, but I’m already daydreaming options to take the tray legs up a notch. Maybe these antique brass jewelry box legs?

Salt Dough Starfish Garland

I love the relaxed design of this salt dough starfish garland from The Desperate Craft Wives. Looks so cute against the weathered fence. What a great project to keep the kids busy after a day at the beach. You could also create a beachy atmosphere around a kiddie pool in your backyard.

I think it would look great to knot these blue, wood beads in between the starfish for extra color.

Driftwood Fish

Creative in Chicago provides this simple project for driftwood fish. Get that glue gun loaded. Who doesn’t love an excuse to wander the beach? Tell everyone you’re busy and go collect some driftwood.

Shell Art

The Party Teacher provides inspiration and instructions to create these cute shell panels. I just adore that aqua color, but feel free to find that perfect sea blue or green to remind you of a perfect day at the beach or compliment your decor. Further customize this project by selecting your favorite shells or sea creatures. A great reason to purchase a few shells at the souvenir store on your next beach vacation. No worries if other fun items find their way into your cart or shopping bag.

Faux sprayed coral for vase

DIY projects don’t get much easier than this, but I love the sea inspired accent provided by this faux coral from H2O Bungalow.

Sea Glass Rope Lantern

Kimberly at A Wonderful Thought shares instruction to create a sea glass rope lantern from an old pickle jar. I am also addicted to pickles, so I have plenty of jars to create my own collection of lanterns. I also love how Kimberly shares her project ‘blooper’. When you try something new, things don’t always go according to plan. Appreciate the inspiration to start over and try again. Hmmmmm….kind of like my Sharpie Paint Pen Wine Glass Christmas gifts 😩. We should have more chances in life for ‘do overs’.

Sea Glass Flower Pots

The Country Chic Cottage has a tutorial to create sea glass flower pots. So many sources for the glass. You can break bottles (safely please), purchase sea glass or use sea glass you collected at the beach. The clay in between gives the pot a mosaic look. So easy. Love it!
